Admission Requirements & Process

Who Can Apply?

  • Candidate must be a Pakistani citizen or resident. (International students are eligible for ODL modes.)
  • Candidate having a minimum CGPA of 2.40/4.00 in their qualifying undergraduate degree (or equivalent division).

Required Degrees

  • For M.Engg.: A relevant Bachelor of Engineering degree. For further information, please visit the Admission section of the university’s website. 

How to Apply & Get Selected

  • Applications must be submitted online via the NED University Online Admissions System before the deadline.
  • Merit is determined by;
  1. The previous academic record (Qualifying Exam Result).
  2. A minimum of 50% score in a mandatory Pre-Admission Entry Test.
  3. An interview

Selected candidates must verify their documents and complete registration within the stipulated deadline.

Program Structure & Duration

Credit Requirements

•    All Master's programs require the completion of 30 credit hours.
•    This typically includes a combination of coursework and a 6-credit-hour Thesis.

Available Study Options

The department offers three master's options: Day, Evening and Weekend programs. A candidate under the Day/Weekend option can register up to 12 credit hours per semester. However, for the Evening program, the credit registration limit is up to 6 hours. For the fulfilment of the degree, a thesis is compulsory for Day program students

Course Load per Semester:

  • Day/Weekend: Maximum 12 credit hours.
  • Evening: Maximum 6 credit hours.
  • An additional course may be allowed under special circumstances (e.g., if you are also enrolled in Thesis).

Registration, Probation & Policies

Academic Probation

  • If the CGPA of any candidate falls below 2.50 at the start of a semester, he/she will be placed on probation.
  • The CGPA must be improved to at least 2.50 by the end of that probationary semester.
  • Failure to do so will result in cancellation of admission, and the candidate will not be allowed to take new courses until the courses are repeated/improved. 

Withdrawal Policies

  • From a Semester: Allowed until the 3rd week with a partial fee adjustment. Later withdrawals may incur additional charges.
  • From the Program: Allowed under justified circumstances. Similar fee rules apply as for semester withdrawal.

Transfer of Credits/Exemption

  • A candidate can apply for exemption for relevant courses taken previously, subject to a maximum of 4 credit hours for the entire program.
  • Courses must have been passed with a 'B' grade or higher and not used for another degree.

Thesis Guidelines

Eligibility for Thesis

You must have completed 12 credit hours and maintained a CGPA of 3.00 or higher.

Thesis Process Overview:

  1. Proposal: Submit a formal thesis proposal within the first 4 weeks of enrolment, which must be approved by a departmental committee.
  2. Supervision: You will be assigned a supervisor. A co-supervisor may also be appointed.
  3. Enrolment: Thesis work is spread over two semesters (3 credits each).
  4. Evaluation: The progress is evaluated at the end of the first semester. Satisfactory progress is required to continue.
  5. Submission & Defence: After at least two semesters of work, the candidate will submit the thesis and defend it orally before an examiners' committee.
  6. Outcome: The thesis can be graded as Satisfactory (S) with minor/major corrections or Unsatisfactory (U).
